Even the largest manufacturing plants rely on small, specialized machines to function effectively. In fact, the more complex your operation becomes, the more likely you are to struggle with size and space restrictions. Tool and die makers, CNC machines and advanced robotics are especially prone to these limitations. Fortunately, we have a number of types of miniature sensors at our disposal that can accommodate these unique considerations. Today, we’ll take a look at a few of these sensor options.

Miniature Capacitive Sensors

Here at Locon, we manufacture our own line of miniature capacitive sensors in two distinct form factors – wafers and cylinders. Wafers are roughly the thickness of a nickel, and range in diameter from 18mm to 30mm. These sensors are ideal for especially narrow spaces where long sensors won’t fit. Cylindrical sensors, on the other hand, are longer than wafers but much smaller in terms of diameter. Our smallest cylindrical sensors are just 4mm in diameter. They are available in both smooth and threaded options.

Bear in mind that because these sensors are so small, they require external power amplifiers to operate. The necessary output of the amplifier will depend on the nature of the application.

Miniature Inductive Sensors

In addition to our own in-house line of sensors, we also carry miniature inductive sensors from Contrinex. The Flat Inductive Proximity Sensor (PROX) is an exciting new product that was designed with durability and longevity in mind. Their all-metal stainless steel housings allow them to stand up to shock, vibration and contact with harsh chemicals. PROX sensors are ideal for applications where space is at a premium, but long operating distances are essential.

These are just a few of the miniature sensors we carry at Locon. Give us a call today at (800) 356-2661 and we’ll work with you to find the right sensor package for your operation.

Locon Sensor Systems, Inc. of Perrysburg, Ohio makes miniature capacitives for industrial use. These capacitives can assist in the control and monitoring of machine processes. They can also act as primary detectors for counting jobs.

Locon’s mini capacitives are convenient because they’re so small, ranging in diameter from 4mm for cylindrical sensors (available in smooth and threaded versions up to M8) to 18mm for the wafer style. The wafer sensor is the size of a thick coin and is ideal for situations when overall length is a problem.  The unique size of the miniature capacitives provides a viable and ideal solution for applications with particular size constraints.

Because of their tiny size, an external amplifier is necessary for sensor operation. To power mini capacitives, Locon supplies external amps featuring your choice of output and a potentiometer for adjusting the sensing distance. Locon’s amplifiers include short circuit, overload, EMF and reverse polarity protection.

Locon Sensor Systems can create custom sensors to your qualifications and purpose.  The specialists at Locon Sensor Systems work closely with clients in an assortment of industries to design a sensor that is built to overcome their specific challenges.  To learn more about the different types of sensor solutions available, or to discuss the individual sensor challenges of your specific application, please call 800-356-2661.
