Hooklift trucks use a series of hydraulic rams to load and unload demountable containers so that they can be transported to and from job sites. These trucks are typically used by waste management operations, construction companies and other businesses that must move large volumes of material to disposal sites. A single container may weigh upwards of 20 tons when filled to capacity.
When a container is lifted onto one of these trucks, the operator must first manually position the lifting hook so that it can be attached to the container. Then, the semi-automated hydraulic system engages the telescopic lifting arm and begins the lifting sequence. If this lifting arm is already partially extended, however, the lifting sequence can overload the arm and cause damage to the hooklift apparatus.
