Protect Hooklift Systems With Rugged Inductive Sensors

Hooklift trucks use a series of hydraulic rams to load and unload demountable containers so that they can be transported to and from job sites. These trucks are typically used by waste management operations, construction companies and other businesses that must move large volumes of material to disposal sites. A single container may weigh upwards of 20 tons when filled to capacity.

When a container is lifted onto one of these trucks, the operator must first manually position the lifting hook so that it can be attached to the container. Then, the semi-automated hydraulic system engages the telescopic lifting arm and begins the lifting sequence. If this lifting arm is already partially extended, however, the lifting sequence can overload the arm and cause damage to the hooklift apparatus.

That’s why hooklift trucks are typically equipped with sensors that can detect the position of the lifting arm, and prevent the lifting sequence from engaging if the arm is extended.

These sensors must not only be highly accurate and reliable, but also durable and able to withstand exposure to outdoor environments. Thanks to their hermetically-sealed design and rugged stainless-steel construction, the Full Inox inductive sensors from Contrinex are perfect for this type of application. Locon Sensor Systems, Inc. has been a proud authorized distributor of Contrinex products for more than 20 years.

As part of Contrinex’s “Extreme” line of sensing equipment, the Full Inox inductive sensors are designed specifically for harsh operating environments. Their corrosion-resistant housing allows them to function reliably even when exposed to ice, rock salt and other contaminates that might accumulate on the components of a hooklift truck. They are also very precise, so they can accurately and reliably detect the position of a hydraulic lifting arm.

Hydraulic hooklift systems are complex and expensive to repair. By eliminating the chance of human error doing damage to the telescopic lifting arm, these Full Inox inductive sensors constitute a great, cost-effective investment in the future of your equipment.
